ISF Golden Star · Studycat
Three, two, one... Cheer!
Wearing bright yellow shirts emblazoned with Studycats, the under-10 boys team raise their arms triumphantly - holding up their medals and proudly posing for the camera. After the COVID-19 pandemic halted all in-person events and tournaments, the boys are thrilled to be back on the pitch at Ian Thompson Memorial - ISF Boys’ Annual Football Tournament.
Studycat, a Hong Kong - based organisation, has sponsored the U10 boys' football team since 2019. Their sponsorship enables the team to participate in nationwide tournaments, leagues, and weekly trainings for three consecutive years. In Cambodia, access to green spaces for exercise is limited. By participating in ISF’s Football Programme, the boys have the rare opportunity to regularly participate in organised sport while benefiting from ISF’s bespoke social impact sports curriculum - teaching skills valuable both on- and off- the pitch.
In December 2019, the Studycat team came to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where they spent three days visiting ISF’s Stung Meanchey and Chbar Ampov campuses. Seeing ISF’s impact and watching his own kids take to the pitch, Studycat Co-Founder/Co-CEO Mark Pemberton reflects: "I was very impressed by the life-changing value that the organisation brings to hundreds of families. ISF offers education and basic resources to the community that enable real change to occur while lifting these families from the crushing poverty that they exist in."
Studycat designs and creates engaging and game based language learning apps - teaching early learners English, Spanish, French, Chinese, and German. Dedicated to fostering a passion for language and literacy, Studycat furthers their impact at ISF by supporting the Education Programme. Working hand-in-hand with the English team, Studycat donates learning applications, books, and devices integral to teaching students English in creative and accessible ways.
ISF’s Head of English Programme Tep Sothearith shares insight into why the relationship with Studycat has provided integral support: “Studycat has paved another interesting way of learning English for our kids through their online app. They have been great learning tools for students in low levels to improve their phonics skills, creativity, teamwork skills, and most importantly, a great deal of fun.”
At ISF, we’re thrilled to partner with like-minded organisations that provide life-changing, sustainable education to youth. Studycat’s holistic support and involvement with ISF’s Football and Education Programmes have been integral to building pathways out of poverty while allowing youth marginalised by poverty to have fun while developing lifelong skills.
About ISF Golden Star:
ISF Cambodia’s life-changing work is only made possible through our incredible community’s support. To show our appreciation and raise awareness of the significant contributions of our global network, ISF created “ISF Golden Star”. Each month, ISF will recognise a person or a group who has positively impacted our mission and helped make a difference, one child at a time.
